As you can imagine, the 2020-2021 school year has been a challenging one for the members of our Penn Theta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi. Colleges and Universities have had to change the way that they educate, and young men and women have had to adopt new ways of learning and socializing. As colleges have adjusted to this new way of life, so has our chapter.
The Fall semester saw us without members living in the Old Grey Barn for only the second time in our history. As students adapted to this new virtual learning environment, our chapter looked at this as an opportunity to assess what the long term needs of the house and chapter are.
This allowed us to identify 4 major areas of the house that need attention: Exterior Work, Mechanical and Engineering Updates, Facility Renovations, and Improving Living Amenities. We have begun some of this work, including repaving the parking area, replacing the dining room furniture, purchasing new furniture for members to enhance their academic experience, and ensuring the house meets and exceeds all COVID-19 University and CDC guidelines, but there is more to be done over the coming months and throughout the summer.
As the Old Grey Barn has sheltered and cared for our members for decades, again so too must we care for her. If we want our chapter to remain one of the leading groups on campus and a group that our alumni, members, parents and school faculty and staff can remain proud of we again need to invest in one of our most important assets.
With students back on campus and in the house this semester we are hoping to raise the necessary capital so that we can move forward with the rest of the needed projects and repairs. Thanks to a generous matching gift opportunity made possible by Brothers Roger Newton and David Roth we have an opportunity to quickly raise this capital and invest it in the future of the house and chapter. Please use the form below in order to help us unlock this matching gift and to continue to provide for our chapter.
