The American University
of Beirut, known as “AUB,” is one of the oldest universities
in the Middle East. The University was founded in 1866 as an independent
non-sectarian institution of higher learning. The University works to empower
its students and encourages them to aspire to a richer personal and professional
life. For more than a century, AUB graduates have made significant contributions
to the development of the Arab world and, in their professions, to the global
community.
A teaching-centered research University where English is the language of instruction, AUB offers a rigorous curriculum in the American liberal arts along with strong professional preparation. AUB stresses high academic standards and maintains a commitment to critical thinking, open debate and mutual tolerance. Overlooking the Mediterranean, the campus offers students a lovely natural environment. AUB is also a part of a dynamic cosmopolitan center where the region’s diverse peoples, culture, and traditions blend.
