San Antonio’s River Walk is a year round public park with a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River. One story beneath approximately 5 miles of downtown San Antonio, the River Walk winds and loops under bridges as two parallel sidewalks are lined with restaurants, shops, hotels and more. It connects the major tourist draws of the city from the Alamo to Rivercenter Mall, Arneson River Theatre and La Villita, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Pearl Brewery. Start planning your evening dining adventure by visiting the River Walk’s website.
Originally name Misión San Antonio de Valero, worldwide, the Alamo is still revered as a heroic struggle against impossible odds — a place where men made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. For this reason, it remains hallowed ground and the Shrine of Texas Liberty. Located on Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio, Texas, the Alamo represents nearly 300 years of history. Three buildings, the Shrine, Long Barrack Museum and Gift Museum, house exhibits on the Texas Revolution and Texas History. Just a short distance from the River Walk, the Alamo is a "must see" for all who come to San Antonio for the GAC. For information on planning your visit to the Alamo visit the official visitors website.
Want to check out local artists and indulge your cultural side, then La Villita is the perfect place to do so! San Antonio's first neighborhood, La Villita is alive with a variety of architectural styles reflected in the structures, which portray the evolution of buildings from palisado to Victorian Houses as influenced by the German and French settlers to this area in late 19th century. Come roam the streets, check out the galleries and grab a bite to eat in this thriving community which stands as a monument to San Antonio's past.
Connect with nature while visiting the Natural Bridge Caverns. Texas’ largest cavern is located just 30 minutes north of downtown San Antonio and promises not to disappoint. Pan for precious stones, take the ultimate leap of faith from the Watchtower, go caving on an adventure tour or simply experience nature on the original Discovery Tour. Natural Bridge Caverns offers something for everyone with an experience you will never forget! Visit the cavern's website to plan an outing like no other!
