Dennis J. Schwartz

Dennis J. “Denny” Schwartz
Purdue '60

Denny attended the University of Notre Dame as a freshman and in his sophomore year transferred to Purdue University. He graduated from Purdue in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.

After a two year army tour in Germany, he returned to Indiana. The family purchased a small bank in 1966 and Denny became President in 1970. The bank grew through mergers and normal growth to 24 locations and nearly $1 billion in size. The family sold the bank in 1996 to Fort Wayne National Corporation. Denny served on the board of Fort Wayne National until their sale to National City Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio in 1998. He is now an executive consultant with National City.

Also, during these years the family owned a national distribution business serving the RV, marine, and manufactured housing industry. He is presently the Vice-Chairman of DEHCO, Inc. the holding company to this distribution family of companies.

During the banking years he sat on many boards, but his involvement with Memorial Health System in South Bend, IN, the region's largest medical center, was his most enjoyable experience. He served on several of their committees and was chairman of the total system from 1995 to 1997.

Denny lives in Mishawaka, Indiana, and spends winters at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has one son, Jim (Purdue '85) who lives with his wife and two children in Granger, Indiana. His involvement with Purdue continues through his sponsorship of a new tennis center there, in memory of his deceased wife.
